Growing up in Brooklyn, the concept of a stoop sale felt as obvious an occasion as a block party, a BBQ in the park or a kickback in someone's apartment. The motive is simple: you have stuff you don't want anymore, but you'd rather make a day of it chillin' outside than aggressively hawking it at pawn shops, thrift stores and online. Stoop sales are typically something held by your neighbors, advertised with sidewalk chalk, and offering a variety of worn-down old shirts and dresses, jewelry and knickknacks for anywhere from a buck to maybe $10.
Tomorrow, musician-owned and run indie soul label Daptone Records will be hosting a Super Soul Stoop Sale which really is "super" in every sense – a formal Facebook event, genuine deals and savings on Daptone merch AND they're accepting credit cards. There'll also be free beer.
